Satellite Academy
Enrollment is now open for the 2009-2010 school year.
What
The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education is proud to offer our Satellite Academy Program SAP for the 25th consecutive year. Using the Educational Leadership Policy Standards (ELPS) as the program goals, Satellite Academy participants will have a unique professional opportunity utilizing the following themes: self-improvement, understanding and leading change and school improvement design and implementation.
Each participant will be given the tools to develop a personal-improvement plan based on self assessment data, profiles and feedback. Each participant will learn about and develop an action research project. Participants will also acquire basic knowledge regarding the change process , data collection and analysis. Data collected over the years of the program indicate significant improvement in the skills and knowledge base of those attending the Satellite Academy. School leaders leave the Satellite Academy renewed and refocused on implementing school improvement programs for their buildings.
Note: The cost of this program is $600 registration and a $60 food charge for each of the four state wide meetings. Local districts can utilize the following sources of funding to support attendance: Professional Development Funds from the local 1% allocation; Title I (if allowed under law); Title II.A Funds; Special Education Funds (special education funds can only be used if the person is using the information to work with students with disabilities.) ; Carl Perkins and local funds The administrator would need to have direct involvement with Career Education/Perkins to use Perkins Funds. If they are a director of an area career center then there would be no problem of using Perkins money.

All practicing or aspiring administrators in public, private and parochial schools are eligible for the Satellite Academy Program. Participants must have a strong commitment to their own growth and development.
Why
The focus of this sustained program is to develop school leaders who can positively and significantly impact student performance through effective school improvement practices. In Missouri and throughout the nation, school improvement mandates and standards are redefining the school administrator’s role. The pressure is on to provide a quality education for each child. Missouri administrators must have continuous opportunities to develop and hone skills for instructional leadership.
Where
Regional Satellite Academy activities will be coordinated by facilitators through the state university and Regional Professional Development Center in your area. Participants will determine regional dates and schedules for their respective group meetings.
