MAC II

Under the federal regulations in the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001, state education agencies must provide evidence that the English proficiency of English Language Learners (ELL's) is improving. Missouri chose the MAC II Test of English Language Proficiency as a way to determine statewide progress from year to year. The MAC II evaluates English proficiency in four areas: Speaking, Listening, Reading, and Writing. In addition to providing a statewide assessment, the test scores can also help teachers. The results can help identify students' strengths and weaknesses in English proficiency, track individual progress from year to year, and determine how well the ESL services are working for students.

Schools throughout Missouri must administer the MAC II test to all students receiving English as a Second Language (ESL) services during the annual testing window. Students who have exited ESL services within the last 2 years will also be tested.
