DIBELS and other reading assessments

DIBELS stands for: The Dynamic Indicators of Beginning Emerging Literacy. This assessment is available FREE to any school and is required by Reading First. It is given three imes each year to every student and more often to students at risk of failure. There are many different sections to the website, and everything you need to give the assessment is available here.

An option that is available through the Oregon website is their data management system. For $1 per student, per year, students' benchmark and progress monitoring scores can be entered to make information gathering easier.

One company has taken the DIBELS assessment from paper to PDA. Reading First granted schools are now giving DIBELS on handheld computers, visit their website to see how it works.
